If someone has the correct tools and skill set, building their own shed may be the more cost-effective choice, since only investment required will be the materials used in the actual build. However, purchasing a custom built garden shed from a reliable company is not only more convenient for most people but also assures structural stability and longevity of the building.
As a rule, garden sheds which stand up to 30sqm and do not occupy more than 50% of the total garden space will not need planning permission so long as guidelines are followed.
Any build within 2m of a boundary must remain under 2.5m in height.
A shed built within 1m of a boundary must not be greater than 15sqm. If the shed is between 15sqm – 30sqm this must be at least 1m away from the boundary. The shed must also only be for domestic use and not as sleeping accommodation.
In conservation areas and areas of outstanding natural beauty rules often differ and should be checked accordingly. We always advise checking with your local council first if you are unsure.
It is thought that having a garden shed, particularly one built with high-quality materials and accented with aesthetically pleasing features can add value to your property and is also an attractive selling point. The amount of value added however will be dependent on a variety of factors including the size of the garden shed, whether or not it can act as an additional bedroom/living space, the washroom facilities it has and much more.
A shed can be built up to 50mm away from the boundary so long as the build does not exceed 2.5m in height and is less than 15sqm in size. For builds between 15sqm – 30sqm they must be at least 1m away from the boundary.
Our standard garden sheds do not come with insulation and are intended for storage. However, insulation and UPVC upgrades are available on request if desired, which will open up a whole host of opportunities for transforming your new garden shed into an actual domestic space.
All of our garden sheds are bespoke and custom built to your specifications which means you can outfit your new outdoor space with whatever features or finishes you desire including the likes of insulation, glass windows, single or double-doors and more.
A flat level base is highly important for a shed to sit on in order to ensure its structural stability and longevity. A level slabbed or concrete base are typically the most popular options due to their high-strength properties. We also offer timber framed bases as an option, and for smaller-sized garden sheds we also offer gravel grid bases as a suitable and affordable option.

They had long drive to my place but still popped up in the early morning. They were professional and with good workmanship. The communication within the company was so good that they didn't make any mistake throughout the whole process. They could build exactly what I wanted. We were so happy for making the right choice. I'm surprised they didn't turn down the job as I had a 1000 questions, before even starting ... But I honestly can not recommend the whole team enough! BA18/11/2023I cannot recommend Green Leaf Garden Buildings highly enough!!! From Shane visiting us to discuss ideas to Ashley in the office promptly answering all of our (many many many) questions to Dan, Shaun and all the guys installing the Garden Building - every aspect was exceptional and highly professional. I am blown away by how I was treated as a customer. Everything was clearly explained to us including the internal dimensions (important as we are a tall family!!), the electrics and the finish to ensure that we were completely happy. The standard of workmanship is flawless and excellent and they were meticulous, tidy, and so very friendly. They left my garden immaculate with no signs of works!! I had a large Garden Building (12m x 2.5m) and they built it in a week!! On the first day of the build it snowed so I was expecting a call from them to cancel but they turned up on time and worked through the bad weather every day. The work ethic of everyone who worked on our building is highly commendable. I had to delay the build by a few days but they pulled out all the stops to complete it within the original timescale and without cutting corners!! Throughout the process, I felt that making the customer happy meant more to these guys than anything else. They went over and beyond and because of the standard of workmanship, I feel that the investment in a Garden Building is worth every penny. We obtained many quotes and were nervous when deciding who to go with but we definitely 100% made the right decision going with Green Leaf. Thank you to the whole team!!!! Paul Higgins07/11/2023This was a very big investment for me. It’s fair to say I was hesitant and nervous but the team engaged positively, answering all of my numerous queries and being very transparent in terms of specification. The build went very smoothly and there was clear flexibility when it came to queries while it progressed and these were answered and addressed promptly. Any snags were resolved quickly. Whilst not a major issue in the slightest I did note that the specification was for an armoured network cable to be installed but upon inspection, a standard cat5 cable had been used, routed in the main through some plastic trunking. However, I had a constructive and open discussion about this with the team. I decided not to have the cable replaced. Whilst the provisioned cable was at a different price point, through our conversation I elected not to progress on an invoice revision as my overall experience had been a positive one. However, that the cable provided was not as expected is the only reason I rate at 4 stars rather than 5.

From our initial engagement back in December to picking the project back up in July Dan and his team inc Katie were informative, precise, hard-working, diligent and helpful. We're really pleased with the end product which the team went above and beyond to deliver on time. It has offered us exactly what we wanted from a garden office and will be able to be used all year round. The price we thought to be very reasonable and I have friends in different areas of the UK who seem to have paid an awful lot more for less. For garden builds we'd always turn to GLGB and are keen to use them again. We have already recommended them to others. Thank you GLGB :)

Dan was very precise and kept to the schedule, although they quoted us until the end of the week but they completed the foundations and build within 2 days!!! The finish is far better than what we expected and we look forward to doing the next part! Thank you Dan, Katie and the whole team!!!
SS A02/06/2023Went over and beyond in building a new Sauna, Shed and Gazebo. We have recently had our second build by Green Leaf having had a garden room and shed installed by them earlier this year. We were so impressed by them that we decided to use them to build a second Shed, Bespoke Sauna and Gazebo. Once again Green Leaf exceeded our expectations and did a fantastic build and at a great price. We have always wanted a sauna but were never impressed by the ready-to-install versions so we asked Green Leaf if they could do it and they did it beautifully. The large gazebo now gives us a fabulous seating/hot tub area where we can enjoy our garden come rain or shine. Dan being the perfectionist he is thought of everything and the attention to detail is fantastic. In fact all the guys who worked on this building went over and beyond and were super friendly and hard working. Thank you to all the Green Leaf team for taking pride in their work (a rarity nowadays) and for putting the customer first. We could not have asked for more and are truly grateful.
